Use of Cookies
Cookies are short fragments of text (letters and/or numbers) that allow the web server to store information on the client (the browser) for reuse during the same visit to the site (session cookies) or later, even after several days (persistent cookies).
Cookies are stored, according to the user's preferences, by the individual browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone).
Similar technologies, such as web beacons, transparent GIFs and all forms of local storage introduced with HTML5, may be used to collect information about user behaviour and use of services.
Throughout this document we will refer to cookies and all similar technologies simply using the term "cookie".
Types of Cookies
Based on the characteristics and use of cookies, we can distinguish several categories:
Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies essential for the correct functioning of sites and are used to manage login and access to restricted site functions. These cookies generally last only for the working session (they are deleted when the browser is closed), but in some cases and without any notice, cookies with a longer duration (expiring after 30 days) may also be used to recognise the visitor's computer for that period, through an alphanumeric code generated at the first login session, so as to display the result of the test carried out by the user. Disabling them compromises the use of services accessible via login. The public part of the sites normally remains usable.
Analytics and performance cookies. These cookies are used to collect and analyse traffic and site usage anonymously. These cookies, without identifying the user, allow, for example, detection of whether the same user returns at different times. They also allow monitoring of the system and improvement of its performance and usability. Disabling these cookies can be carried out without any loss of functionality.
Profiling cookies. These are persistent cookies used to identify (anonymously and otherwise) the user's preferences and improve their browsing experience.
Third-party Cookies
While browsing the web, you may receive cookies from both the site visited ("first-party") and from sites managed by other organisations ("third parties"). A notable example is the presence of "social plugins" for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. These are parts of the visited page generated directly by those sites and integrated into the page of the host site. The most common use of social plugins is to share content on social networks.
The presence of these social plugins entails the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties. The management of information collected by "third parties" is governed by their respective privacy policies, which we ask you to refer to. Google Analytics
The sites also include certain components transmitted by Google Analytics, a web traffic analysis service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). In this case too, these are third-party cookies collected and managed anonymously to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookies).
Google Analytics uses "cookies" to collect and anonymously analyse information about website usage behaviour (including the user's IP address). This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it in order to compile reports for operators on website activity. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) Google's analytics tool to monitor or collect personally identifiable information. Google does not associate the IP address with any other data held by Google, nor does it attempt to link an IP address with the identity of a user. Google may also communicate this information to third parties where required by law or where such third parties process the aforementioned information on Google's behalf.

Cookie Duration
Some cookies (session cookies) remain active only until the browser is closed or the logout command is executed. Other cookies "survive" the browser closing and are also available on subsequent user visits.
These cookies are called persistent and their duration is set by the server at the time of their creation. In some cases a deadline is set, in others the duration is unlimited.
However, while browsing web pages, you may interact with sites managed by third parties that can create or modify permanent and profiling cookies.
